A content management system (CMS) is a software which is used to create, edit, manage, and publish content in a consistently organized way. It is deployed primarily for interactive use by a potentially large number of contributors. For example, the software for the website Wikipedia is based on a wiki, which is a particular type of content management system. Content management system is used for storing, controlling, versioning, and publishing such documants as news articles, operators’ manuals, technical manuals, sales guides, and marketing brochures. The content managed may include computer files, image media, audio files, elictronics documents, web content etc.
The idea following a CMS is to formulate these files presented inter-office, as well as over the web. A Content Management System would most often be used as an archive as well. Many companies use a CMS to store files in a non-proprietary form. Companies use a CMS to share files with no difficulty, as most systems use server-based software, even further broadening file availability.

By it, you can gain the ability to track and manage multiple versions of a single instance of content; It will give you the ability to capture content.
A CMS will supply you the ability to publish the content to a repository to support access to the content. Increasingly, the repository is an inherent part of the system, and incorporates enterprise search and retrieval.
